SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Assistant Production Supervisor supports daily manufacturing operations within manufacturing and production areas. This role assists in coordinating production activities, ensuring that safety, quality, and productivity standards are consistently met. Working closely with management to monitor workflow, support staff, and ensure machines and processes operate efficiently to meet production schedules. The position plays a key role in maintaining a safe work environment, enforcing company policies, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  Includes, but may not be limited to the following:
  • Assists the Production Supervisor in coordinating daily production activities to meet production schedules and customer delivery requirements.
  • Assists with shift start-up activities including machine readiness, tooling verification, material availability, and operator assignment.
  • Monitors machines and production lines during the shift to ensure output, quality, and safety standards are maintained.
  • Responds to production interruptions and escalates issues to Maintenance or Production Supervisor to minimize downtime.
  • Communicates production priorities and shift objectives to operators.
  • Provides technical and operational support to operators to maintain production efficiency and quality.
  • Ensures operators follow documented standard operating procedures, work instructions, and safety requirements.
  • Supports monitoring of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) including production output, scrap, downtime, and efficiency.
  • Ensures accurate completion of production documentation and reporting through ERP systems such as PLEX.
  • Monitors product quality and escalates potential issues to Quality or Production Supervisor as needed.
  • Supports implementation of engineering changes, production trials, model changes, and pilot builds.
  • Communicates production issues and support needs to Planning, Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance.
  • Monitors material flow to ensure workstations remain supplied and production is not interrupted.
  • Assists in maintaining cleanliness and organization of the production floor in accordance with company standards.
  • Supports training of operators on equipment, processes, and standard work instructions.
  • Assists in monitoring employee attendance and reporting concerns to the Production Supervisor.
  • Assists Production Supervisor with incident, accident, and non-conformity reporting and documentation.
  • Supports Lean manufacturing initiatives and continuous improvement activities within the production area.
  • Supports production boards, shift communication, and visual management systems.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

  • Associate’s degree in business, management or another related field supplemented by 2 (or more) years of experience in a lead role, manufacturing, production, or continuous improvement.
  • High school diploma supplemented by 5 (or more) years of experience in a lead role, manufacturing, production, or continuous improvement environments.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Experience in metal stamping, fabrication, assembly, or industrial manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Experience leading, training, and coordinating production employees.
  • Ability to assist in supervising shift activities, delegating tasks, and monitoring workforce performance.
  • Basic knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methods.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as PLEX, SAP, AS400 or other manufacturing enterprise resource planning systems preferred.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and support multiple production activities simultaneously.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and understanding of manufacturing processes preferred.
  • Understanding of and experience with ISO 9001 standards preferred.
  • Experience enforcing workplace safety procedures and compliance with OSHA or company safety policies.
  • Ability to promote a strong safety culture on the production floor.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time.  Employees must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, reach overhead, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Tasks require manual dexterity, hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate tools, machinery, computer keyboard and other equipment. In addition to visual and hearing acuity; as well as identifying and distinguishing colors. 
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • This position will spend most of the time on the shop floor exposed to high noise levels from presses, fabrication machinery, and other production equipment.  Exposure to moving mechanical parts, heavy equipment, forklifts, and manual and automated machinery.  Some work will be completed at a workstation. Variable temperatures but mainly temperature-controlled work environment. Exposure to metal dust, oils, lubricants, and other manufacturing materials commonly used in stamping and fabrication processes. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required while working in designated areas.
